Coffee With Me

In preparation for this meeting, I pack a large bag which contains the following: bandages, bindings, bolsters, buttresses, fasteners, reinforcements, support straps- I won’t use them, but it’s nice to know I have them—

An odd meeting today
With someone to whom I’d say
Life’s about to get crazy

With three children in tow
The life you think you know
Will clearly become hazy

The mystery guest
Of my request
A coffee date with a younger me—

My 2004 identity
Was that me carefree?
Bad things are often grouped in three:

A paternal death
Then take a breath
You’ll have your own medical scare

You’ll recover quite fast
It’s soon part of your past
The next challenge will need you there

On the job front
I have to be blunt
Your income’s once again curtailed

You thought it was strong
Turns out you were wrong
Your rocky marriage will soon fail

That’s four, not three
Well, one was free
A bonus because your strong

The dust will rest
You’ll soon be your best
So forge into your life headlong

The rewards will come
I must next have some
Coffee with future me

From 2024
To see what’s in store
It will be… We shall soon see.

For that meeting I believe I’ll pack a bag which will contain the following:
Balloons, champagne, horns, tiaras, confetti, white doves to be released—
I will use them.
