Foreshadowing

Sleep eludes me
I toss and turn
Kicking free of the blankets
As beads of sweat dampen my skin
A black hole of rising panic takes hold
I grasp the sheets in a futile attempt to
Still the spinning
I am in its vortex
Submerged in trepidation
My pulse racing
My heart pounds louder and louder in my ears
Smothering my senses
I can’t breath
Clutching my throat
I spring up into a sitting position gasping.
I grab my phone
Pushing the home button
It comes to life
Exposing the source of my self inflicted chaos…
It reads:
6:10 AM, December 24
I haven’t started my Christmas preparations.
