Land That Lasts

I think about the land I see and what others have created

Used car lots and mini malls their worth could be debated

If I owned some land myself, I’m not sure what I’d do

Pitch a tent or plant a tree or start a petting zoo

Perhaps I’d leave it as it is and call it a preserve

Where anyone could visit if they left it undisturbed

Gerald: “Do you mean to tell me, Katie Scarlett O’Hara, that Tara, that land, doesn’t mean anything to you? Why, land is the only thing in the world worth workin’ for, worth fightin’ for, worth dyin’ for, because it’s the only thing that lasts.”
Margaret Mitchell’s “Gone With the Wind”
