“The Daily Post, July 22, 2015, Daily Prompt: The Sincerest Form of Flattery~ Publish a post in the style of a favorite author/blogger or photographer.”
Hmm… something about the phrase “The sincerest form of flattery…” annoys me so much that I can’t get past it long enough to participate in today’s writing challenge:
“The Sincerest Form of Flattery…”
Flattery— Excessive insincere praise
Please note that the second word used to define the word flattery, is insincere. Let’s replace the word flattery, with its full definition, to determine the validity of the phrase, in order to ascertain whether or not the phrase is logical:
The sincerest form of excessive insincere praise…
The meaning of the phrase in this composition is incontrovertible— I contend that “sincere flattery” is an oxymoron, and as such I object to today’s prompt, and proclaim it null and void.
