Chocolate

To have been invisible last night
Would have held power over a thief
To steal this from a mother
Is to incite rage beyond belief

There was a secret chocolate bar
In a hidden pocket in a purse
Just knowing it existed
Made all right with the universe

In contemplation of sharing
And how many pieces to disburse
As recompense for helpfulness
That didn’t have to be coerced

But as with all good things in life
This good thing it seems was cursed
Foil and a wrapper on the floor
This deed can’t be reversed

The thief turned out to be the dog
Who in her own way reimbursed
By regurgitating chocolate
In leu of a riding in a doggy hearse
