I admit I’m far from perfect

My life has been at times suspect

I have had my share of weakness— true

And in my life many regrets

I am no worse or better than

The people in the street you pass

With age my vices have dwindled

Down to one thing— You have to ask?

My smartphone has my attention

It takes my time more than it should

I easily justify it

Making it all sound very good

I am reading writing working

My brain needs Google for to think

In reality however

It has severed a human link

Stop, look up a moment

This is exactly what you’ll see

People looking into their hands

Zombies with smartphones, just like me

We don’t talk to each other

We’d rather hammer out a text

Just as we hit the send entry

We are bombarded with the next

My phone—all knowing entity

With endless facts I’m hungry for

Detailed answers to each question

And then I need to know much more

When dead, like Ebenezer Scrooge

No one will miss me in the least

My heartless phone won’t mourn my loss

When all my google searches cease…

“I wear the chain I forged in life,” replied the Ghost. “I made it link by link, and yard by yard; I girded it on of my own free will, and of my own free will I wore it.” ~ Charles Dickens
