White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer announced in his (typically painful to watch) briefing on Monday afternoon, that Florida golfing POTUS Trump has chosen to donate his salary for the first quarter of the year — a total of $78,333 — to the National Park Service.
His choice of the National Park Service is rich for a couple of reasons:
- Trump’s budget proposal calls for $1.5 billion in cuts to the Department of the Interior which operates the National Park Service, that’s 12% of the department’s total budget. $78k is hardly going to make up for $1.5 billion.
- Remember Inauguration Day, back on January 20, 2017? The National Park Service tweeted a series of aerial and ground shots showing crowd sizes during the last three presidential inaugurations. Those photos clarified what we all knew, but what Trump repeatedly denied; Trump’s crowd was small. Do you remember how Trump retaliated? @NatlParkService account on Twitter was forcibly suspended from operation by the Washington support office –
Call me thankless if you will, because I’m not impressed with his “donation”. Melania lives in New York Trump Tower rather than the White House at a cost to taxpayers of $1 million every single day, Trump goes on golf weekends nearly every weekend at a cost to tax payers of $3-5 million, his children and all of their families take over Aspen Colorado during spring break, taking with them enough secret service officers to require a $200,000 ski rentals alone—at tax payers expense, but that’s just a drop in the bucket—
The U.S. Secret Service has requested $60 million in additional funding for the next year, because that is what they believe is the most precise estimate of what it will cost to protect Trump and his family due to their extravagant lifestyles.
Donald Trump has Spicer tell us he is making a generous donation: “it is every penny that the president received from the first quarter to the day,” Spicer said. “It’s from January 20th, noon, forward.”
How kind. Let’s do the math:
$60,000,000.00 – $78,333.00 = **$59,921,667.00
$60 millions additional annual cost for Trump – $78,333. Donation = 59,921,667.00 **What Trump still owes taxpayers.
One more thing— because Trump listed this as a “donation” he will be able to write it off on his taxes. There he goes being “smart” again.
