SDNY Charges Manafort

I ❤️ New York!

In federal court today, Paul Manafort was sentenced to an additional 43 months in prison. Adding that to last week’s light sentence brings his total sentence to 7.5 years. Today’s charges were related to his political consulting work in Ukraine, while last weeks were for federal tax evasion.

Rampant conjecture by talking heads, discussing the likelihood that Donald Trump’s pardon was a forthcoming inevitability, came to an abrupt halt when Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance filed 16 new state charges against Manafort.

Those 16 counts include mortgage fraud, conspiracy, falsifying business records, etc.

The most satisfying aspect of the move by Mr Vance, besides the timing, came with the knowledge that Donald Trump has no authority to pardon state crimes.

Paul Manafort has yet to be charged for the crimes he committed during the 2016 election, that can of worms remains sealed. He could also still face additional charges in other states.

Justice may yet be served.

Eric Prince’s Perjurious Slip of the Tongue…

This interview with Eric Prince is worth a listen. Who is he? He’s a former Navy Seal (impressive), he’s also former CEO of a government services and security company called Blackwater USA, which essentially pays civilians to act as security in locations around the world where American troops have been withdrawn. It is privatized military for profit and it made him over a billion dollars- paid by us, the American taxpayer.

Here’s a shocker, he’s a Trump supporter, and brother to, least likely to succeed at her job as Secretary of Education, Betsy P (potential grizzlies) Devos.

The following interview should set the standard for journalism.

Mehdi Hasan, of Al Jazeera is the journalist questioning Eric Prince. To say he’s good at what he does is an understatement. He is relentless, armed with facts he shoots with rapid-fire in response to every denial. He’s fearless. This was a battle of wits to which Eric Prince arrived unarmed.

Hasan flustered Prince to the point that he admitted to having been at the infamous (nothingburger) Trump Tower meeting in August 2016. You may remember it as the meeting Don Jr said was to discuss Russian adoptions. Jr perjured himself over this meeting.

In Prince’s case, his mere attendance was a fact he failed to disclose when questioned by the House Intelligence Committee… his admission in the interview, to having been there, was an inadvertent confession of perjury.

I think perjury is still illegal… even for Trump’s people.

Again, it’s well worth a listen.

Manafort’s Sentence is a Crime

Yesterday, Thursday March 7, 2019, for those of you in other planetary time zones, Paul Manafort, (presidential campaign chairman for Donald Trump), a man with shady Russian and Ukrainian ties, (understatement), was sentenced to 3.9 years in prison by Judge T.S. Ellis. (Not to be confused with long dead 19th century American poet T.S.Elliot.) Judge Ellis, I understand, also goes by the name Judge Fvckwad.

Paul Manafort’s defense team begged for an unheard of lenient sentence of 5 years.

Math time:

12 months x 5 years = 60 months requested

Manafort received 3.9 years = 47 months

I can’t show my work because I copied the answer,

but the answer is…

13 months… Manafort received a sentence 13 months less than the insanely lenient sentence his attorneys requested.

Manafort’s lenient sentence has caused outrage among anyone with an understanding of white collar criminal privilege. I tried to point out to a few people that the sentence did not encompass crimes related to the 2016 election. From what I understand, and I am quite frequently wrong, (see yesterday’s post), it only pertained to Manafort’s $6 million tax fraud.

Still, let’s put this in perspective. Paul Manafort failed to disclose $16 million to the IRS. Let those among us whom haven’t forgotten about $16 million cast the first stone, (not Roger Stone please). With that “omission”, Paul Manafort defrauded the IRS of $6 million. The law recommends 19-24 YEARS for this crime.

The punishment Manafort received was the equivalent of what one can expect if they steal $100, while not rich or white.

Remember how Donald Trump lost the popular vote by 3 million? And remember how he was desperate to have people believe the loss was due to (nonexistent) “widespread voter fraud among democrats”? Remember when Trump found his scapegoat, a woman who voted while on probation, not knowing she wasn’t allowed to do so? That woman who cast a single vote, by mistake, received a harsher sentence than Paul Manafort, a traitor.

Prior to announcing the sentence, Judge Ellis said Manafort has led an “otherwise blameless life.”

But, Manafort has gout, so let’s overlook all that.

I am a Pollyanna at heart. I look for a shred of good news to focus on with everything in life, because if I don’t do that, anguish, despair and apathy put me in a chokehold, and then who will put my towels in the dryer?

The ray of light I found was the idea that: “tomorrow is another day.” Tomorrow, actually next week, Paul Manafort will be back in court to be sentenced for other crimes. He will eventually be tried for treason, and when the feds have had their fill, the southern district of New York gets to eat… then he’ll be the one “who’s sorry now”. The odds are pretty good that Paul Manafort will die in prison.

Again, I’ll say it without any poetic 🙄 flourish, Paul Manafort has yet to be charged with anything relating to the 2016 election.

And let me point this out, Robert Mueller’s team of prosecutors were not happy when Judge Ellis announced his 3.9 year decision.

I don’t care about Paul Manafort’s ailing health, he came to the hearing in a wheelchair with a bandaged foot, to ask the judge for compassion.

“To say I feel humiliated and ashamed would be a gross understatement.” ~Paul Manafort

Fvck that noise.

Of those Robert Mueller has prosecuted as part of this Trump/Russia investigation, six have been sentenced so far, and believe it or not, Paul Manafort’s 3.9 year sentence has been the harshest doled out to a Trump associate to date.

Next week, Judge Amy Berman Jackson of US District Court for the District of Columbia will sentence Manafort for two conspiracy charges… so chin up… but those crimes only carry a maximum penalty of five years.

Ugh… I have towels in the washer.

Everything Trump Does is a Distraction

Donald Trump is directing the press again.

His misspelled twitter rants:

His embarrassing White House fast food feast for college football champions:

Racial slurs, random childish taunts:

Name calling aimed at the Democratic opposition over his vanity wall:

Even the government shutdown, all serve Trump’s greater purpose.

“I won’t stop repeating this “I’m proud to shutdown the government.” – Donald J Trump

We know this government shut down is not really about border security or Trump’s wall. If the wall was a priority Trump would have had it authorized during his first two years in office… he had two full years when the GOP monopolized congress.

The $5.7 billion dollar question is: What is the shut down really about?

Last week’s most underreported story was the attempt underway to end Russian sanctions by Steve Mnuchin, Trump’s Secretary of Embezzlement Treasury Secretary.

Punishment for the Russian government’s interference in our 2016 election resulted in sanctions against the three businesses belonging to Oleg V Deripaska, Russian Oligarch, a former client of Trump’s one time campaign manager Paul Manafort, and close friend to Vladimir Putin.

Treason Trump and Comrade Mitch McConnell’s appear to be willfully engaged in attempts to keep the government closed until some unknown occurrence happens, because they won’t negotiate. What are they waiting for? They’re waiting until Deripaska’s sanctions have been lifted.

Democratic Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has been working to pass a resolution preventing Mnuchin’s interference (on behalf of Trump), with regards to Oleg Deripaska’s sanctions. The sanctions were initially imposed in April of 2017, with votes displaying overwhelming congressional support 98-2 in the Senate, and 419-3 in the House. Russians can not be allowed to decide our elections. This was a coup, an act of war.

This week only 11 Republican’s voted with Democratic Senators, resulting in a 57-42, to advance Schumer’s resolution in the Senate to block Mnuchin from lifting Deripaska’s sanctions. It was not enough to advance the bill, 60 were needed.

Steven Mnuchin has assured GOP senators that he fully intends to lifting sanctions.

When speaking of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Investigation into Russian interference, Senator Schumer said: “It is deeply suspect that the Donald Trump administration would propose relief before he finished his work.”

Why is Trump eliminating sanctions before he can clear his name from the Russian conspiracy?

The longest government shutdown in American history continues. Tuesday was the second time Mitch McConnell refused a request to bring the senate to a vote to reopen the government. One man stands in the way of 820,000 government workers livelihoods.

Let’s review McConnells life work:

  • Mitch McConnell blocked Obama’s rightful pick of a Supreme Court Justice, leaving the position open for over a year.
  • McConnell who Obama from passing legislation to secure our elections from tampering.
  • McConnell was instrumental in adding $1.9 trillion to the federal deficit with his tax cut for billionaires and big corporations.
  • McConnell has blocked the Senate from voting to end the shutdown… twice.

“One of my proudest moments was when I told Obama, ‘You will not fill this Supreme Court vacancy.” ~ Mitch McConnell

McConnell has called the resolution, brought forth by Schumer to retain the sanctions against Deripaska, a “political stunt.”

The real political stunt is on the part of both Trump and McConnell, whose extension of the government shut down makes it less likely congressional action will be able to stop the lifting of Deripaska’s sanctions, which will take place automatically on January 18th unless a resolution to block interference is passed.

Trump and McConnells well timed inaction in the government shutdown is ensuring Russian sanctions will be lifted.

McConnell and Trump are Russian Assets.

The House and Senate need to pass the resolution before the fast approaching January 18 deadline. Democrats have asked Steven Mnuchin for an extension to the deadline.

What do you think he said?

The greater questions now are:

  • Has Putin been behind the scenes guiding Trump and McConnell in their perpetuation of this shutdown?
  • Is Putin the one who will determine when it ends?
  • Will the shutdown end before airports close and our economy tanks?
  • The traitors in the White House won’t win the long race, but how much damage will they do before they’re taken down?

The Senate has the authority to remove McConnell:

Article I, Section 5, of the Constitution-“Each House of Congress may determine the Rules of its proceedings, punish its members for disorderly behavior, & with the concurrence of 2/3, expel a member.”

Since 1789, the Senate has removed 15 of its membership, Mitch should be 16.

It may be difficult to get a 2/3 vote out of this Russia compromised GOP senate, when you consider 42 Republican senators rejected Democratic efforts to block Trump from lifting sanctions against Deripaska.

Republicans don’t care that Russia is attacking our democracy b/c they’re benefiting from it.
